Binnengluren in de droomvilla van Jennifer Aniston

Het huis van Jennifer Aniston is er eentje die je doet wegkwijnen van verlangen. Haar enorme droomvilla in Californië is wel even andere koek dan haar paars met groene appartementje in Friends. Als haar acteercarrière was geflopt, had een carriere als binnenhuisarchitect of designer haar vast ook niet misstaan.

21 miljoen dollar

De Architectural Digest van deze maand wijdt uitgebreid uit over Aniston’s moderne giga-villa. Ze woont hier met haar man Justin Theroux en hun drie honden. Ze kochten het huis voor een schamele 21 miljoen dollar en toverde het kasteel samen met een interieur designer om tot de droomvilla van nu. 

 

“If I wasn’t an actress, I’d want to be a designer. I love the process,” says serial home renovator, and superstar actress Jennifer Aniston. “There’s something about picking out fabrics and finishes that feeds my soul.” Aniston’s commitment to the craft was certainly put to the test in her latest residential project, the reimagining of a Bel Air house that was designed by architect A. Quincy Jones and completed in 1965. Aniston enlisted the aid of #AD100 interior designer @stephenshadley to help preserve the modernist ethos of the original scheme while softening some of its sharp lines and outfitting the interior with tactile, organic finishes and furnishings. “Sexy is important, but comfort is essential,” she avers, pointing as evidence to the vintage Jean Royère Polar Bear sofa, Jacques Adnet armchairs, and Mies van der Rohe daybed arranged in the living room, pictured here. Compromissen met man Justin

In een interview met het blad vertelt Jennifer dat ze ontwerper was geworden als ze geen actrice was: 'Ik heb plezier in dit proces. Het heeft gewoon wat om stoffen en afwerkingen te selecteren waar je voldoening uit haalt.' Ze omschrijft haar interieur als: 'De Oude Wereld die de Nieuwe Wereld ontmoet'. Ze vindt het leuk als het er sexy uitziet, maar comfort is belangrijker.

Zoals bij elk huwelijk draaide ook de verbouwing van Jennifer en Justin uit op compromissen sluiten. 'Justin wilde zeker zijn stem laten gelden, dus het was een beetje een leerproces voor mij om daarnaar te luisteren in het ontwerpproces,' zei Aniston. 'Het was bijvoorbeeld niet echt handig om direct nee te zeggen op iedere suggestie.' Tip als je binnenkort gaat samenwonen!

 

“Every corner you turn, you have an experience. Everywhere you look, you get a vista,” says actress Jennifer Aniston of her recently completed Bel-Air home. “We worked very hard to get that flow right.” The same imperative guided the transformation of the grounds, which previously featured a hillside vineyard. Garden designer @marcellovillano and landscape architect @anneattinger reorganized the alfresco spaces as a series of interconnected outdoor rooms, terraces, and Asian-inspired pocket gardens.
